Tom Izzo wants to contact Lebron James. The Cavs' Owner, Dan Gilbert, offered Izzo $30 million over five years, and according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, James would be in complete support of the hiring.
Izzo will take some time to make the decision. The move would impact his life as well as it would his career. Rumors are suggesting that Izzo would turn down the offer without a return of Lebron James. The decision will hinge on the chaotic Lebron saga.
Cleveland may become more attractive James if Izzo is able to collaborate with the King.
The under-appreciated supporting cast would return, and with Izzo replacing former head coach, Mike Brown, they could immediately begin another title run.
The concern surrounding Izzo is the well documented failed attempts of college coaches transitioning to the NBA, but with Lebron, and Izzo's vast coaching talents, Izzo would probably do just fine.
Cleveland will always be home for James. James has been quoted before calling it home and saying it would be tough to leave. A few weeks ago Lebron said he would give the Cavs' the edge.
The Bulls and the Nets remain in the hunt for James, but now the front-runner is not clear.
James other suitors will be another obstacle for Cleveland.
Chicago would present James with more talent. Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah could combine to provide James with the supporting cast he needs to win his first ring. Lebron would be following a man that won six straight titles there in Michael Jordan.
In New Jersey there will be no pressure a la Jordan, but they do not have as strong of a nucleus to build around like the Bulls. Devin Harris, Brook Lopez, and the third overall pick in the draft would do fine. New Jersey cannot offer James a superstar to play beside, though. They may fall short.
Cleveland may have unseated Chicago as the new favorite to land James with the pursuit of Izzo. Mo Williams and company, minus Shaq, would boost James and Izzo. The lack of star-power may hurt Cleveland's chances, though.
Izzo's decision will point to an end or a new beginning. The city of Cleveland is desperately clinging to a glimmer of hope. We'll see how this plays out.
