As the Chicago Blackhawks gathered for practice on Friday, two injury updates came to light. Connor Murphy could be back in action soon, while Reese Johnson's outlook worsened.
Murphy hasn't appeared in a game since Jan. 13 due to a groin issue that sent him to injured reserve. The veteran defenseman recently resumed skating and was a full participant in Friday's practice, offering hope for a return before the season ends.
Connor Murphy says he’s been dealing with osteitis pubis, the same groin injury that has sidelined Logan Couture most of the season.

Couture helped him out with some advice and he’s finally feeling better now. He won’t play this weekend but hopes to return next week.
The Blackhawks have seven games remaining, and Murphy will miss at least the next two. But if all goes well, there's a chance he could be back in the lineup on April 10 against the St. Louis Blues or April 12 against the Nashville Predators.
Johnson last played on March 12 when he was involved in a large scrum against the Anaheim Ducks. The rugged forward entered concussion protocol shortly after, and Friday's update could spell the end of his season.
Reese Johnson, who hasn’t played since March 12 due to a concussion, suffered a setback. He isn’t skating right now and has another doctors appointment today.

It's an unfortunate situation for Johnson, who's set to become a restricted free agent this summer. But it's best he takes care of his health, especially when it comes to concussions, which are a significant risk for a player of his ilk.
The Blackhawks host a pair of Central Division foes in a back-to-back weekend slate. The Dallas Stars visit the United Center on Saturday at 2:30 PM CT before the Minnesota Wild come to town on Sunday for another matinee puck drop. While neither of the aforementioned players will suit up, Colin Blackwell (upper body) appears on track to return from a six-game absence.
